Job Summary
Omaha Public Schools seeks a 2026-2027 School Volunteer to support classroom instruction, library activities, lunchroom/recess supervision, field trips, coaching, and office/clerical tasks as part of an unpaid volunteer program. Volunteers assist staff in delivering high-quality learning experiences, help with lesson materials, organize library items, support safety and order in common areas, and contribute to a positive, inclusive school environment. Responsibilities include assisting students individually or in small groups, preparing materials, shelving books, coordinating with staff, and following district policies. Qualifications include being at least 18 years old, able to read with proficient written language, ability to pass a background check if working with students outside the presence of certified staff, effective written and verbal communication, and maintaining confidentiality and a calm, patient demeanor. The role requires coordination with classroom teachers or the building principal, adherence to district policies, and availability for all scheduled hours with advance notice for changes. A new volunteer application is required each school year, and the process includes multiple levels of volunteer clearance depending on activities. Talent Services will communicate with the principal and applicant regarding status, and volunteers begin after receiving approval.
