Job Summary
Provide instructional assistance to students under the direct supervision of a certified teacher, assisting in preparing, conducting, and managing classroom activities. Work with individual students or small groups on reading, writing, and mathematics while helping maintain a neat and orderly classroom environment. Assist with administration and scoring of objective testing instruments, prepare required reports, and help inventory instructional equipment. Supervise students throughout the school day inside and outside the classroom, including lunchroom, bus, and playground duty. Make teachers aware of special needs or problems of individual students. Participate in staff development training programs and faculty meetings as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- GED or High School Diploma
- Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
- Ability to work well with children
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Some experience working with children
- Must be able to lift less than 15 pounds
- Must be able to work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather)
- Must be able to work with frequent interruptions
- Must be able to maintain emotional control under stress
