Job Summary
BUGS is seeking a Middle School Science Teacher to join a collaborative, inclusion-focused faculty for the 2026-2027 school year. The role emphasizes Integrated Co-Teaching in a sustainability-centered curriculum, employing inquiry-based study, field research, and cross-disciplinary learning to engage grades 6-8 students. Responsibilities include co-planning and co-teaching with a focus on differentiated instruction for diverse learners (ELLs, students with IEPs, and multiple ability levels), implementing authentic assessments, and utilizing standards-based grading. The teacher will work within BUGS’ inclusion model, participate in professional development and Professional Learning Communities, support field study trips and extended learning opportunities, and align with Bug’s mission to advance environmental justice and sustainability. Required qualifications include NYS teaching certification (or Students With Disabilities certification) and a Bachelor's degree; a Master's degree is highly preferred. Work hours are Monday–Friday from 7:55 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with an August start, field trips, and occasional evening events. Salary is competitive with the NYC DOE matrix for 2026-2027; virtual first interviews are underway.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education or Science Education
- New York State Teaching Certification or Students With Disabilities Certification
- three years teaching experience (highly preferred)
- ability to work in ICT/co-teaching models
- experience with differentiation and IEPs
