Job Summary
Assist students with disabilities in a self-contained classroom at the elementary/middle school level. Provide small-group instruction in reading, math, and science; support self-help skills (including toileting and feeding); supervise students during transitions and activities; assist with lesson planning, grading, and classroom materials; collaborate with teachers and staff; perform related duties and participate in in-service training; require 48 college credit hours or Paraprofessional assessment, plus demonstrated ability to work with elementary-aged students; physically capable of lifting up to 25 pounds.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum education requirement of 48 college credit hours or passing score on Paraprofessional assessment, supplemented with additional coursework in elementary education
- Experience providing instruction to elementary school age children
- Ability to interact effectively with students, parents, and co-workers
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
- Ability to develop lesson plans and supplemental learning activities for individual students or small groups
- Knowledge of basic instructional aides and techniques for elementary age children
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to administer tests and assess results
- Ability to maintain order and discipline with groups of children
