Job Summary
Assist teachers in providing instruction to Emergent Bilingual students in the classroom while maintaining accurate records of student testing, placement, and monitoring. Prepare instructional materials, administer oral language proficiency tests, and help maintain orderly classrooms. Supervise students throughout the school day, including lunchroom, bus, and playground duty, while making teachers aware of special needs. This role supports the district's goal of improving student achievement for at-risk learners and requires proficiency in reading and math. You will participate in staff development, faculty meetings, and Language Proficiency Assessment Committee meetings. Schedule includes 187 calendar days with moderate lifting requirements and occasional heavy lifting.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Qualify for appropriate state paraprofessional certification
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to assist in instructing, supporting and monitoring reading, writing, and mathematics to groups of Emergent Bilingual students and Newcomers
- Interest and proficiency in reading and math
- Demonstrate an interest in education
- Maintain confidentiality
- Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief
- Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds)
- May require occasional heavy lifting and carrying (15-45 pounds)
- Possible district wide travel
- May work prolonged or irregular hours
