Job Summary
Elementary Advanced Academics Specialist collaborates with district- and site-level staff to support gifted and talented programming, ensure compliance with regulations, and extend enriched learning across all students using STEAM rooms. Responsibilities include designing GT lesson plans, identifying GT students, coordinating the Gifted and Talented School Site Committee, collecting and organizing data, ensuring SIS category classifications, providing professional development for instructional staff on GT and STEAM integration, and facilitating Botball activities and challenge days. The role also encompasses organizing district-level GT and STEAM meetings, promoting inquiry-based instruction across disciplines, maintaining STEAM equipment, and supporting data-driven instructional planning. Requires a Bachelor’s in education, Oklahoma teaching certifications in Elementary Education and Gifted and Talented (or ability to obtain), and strong communication and collaboration skills; preferred advanced degree and expertise with Botball/STEAM tools. May require some physical exertion and the ability to perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in education or related field
- Oklahoma Teaching Certification in Elementary Education or Alternative/Provisional Teaching Certification as approved by the Oklahoma State Department of Education
- Oklahoma Teaching Certification in Gifted and Talented (or ability to obtain certification by the time of starting the position)
- Strong communication, listening, collaboration, and interpersonal skills -- verbally and in writing
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents/guardians, and the community
- Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others, demonstrate self-discipline and initiative, follow state and district guidelines
- Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation
- Knowledge of content standards and assessment-driven instruction
- Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners
Desired Qualifications
- Advanced degree preferred
- Experience with Botball or robotics
- Strong Google Apps for Education skills
- Knowledge of gifted and talented educational strategies
- Experience designing and delivering professional development for adult learners
- Knowledge of STEAM integration and curriculum design
