Job Summary
Conduct supplemental practice for learning experiences, including drills and activities, using effective strategies to reinforce and modify skills specific to the Vocational Education Setting. Provide direct assistance to students' behavioral, academic, and/or personal needs, maintaining student discipline and assisting with behavior management, de-escalation, and conflict resolution. Collect, sort, and correct lessons and tests; record grades in ledgers; redistribute as necessary; and file classroom materials. Perform setting up and taking down of materials, supplies, and equipment to support student success. Evaluate student injuries and perform first aid when necessary. This part-time position at Thurston High School involves 7.0 hours per day when students are in school.
Required Qualifications
- Associates degree or higher
- Completion of two years post-secondary study consisting of 72 credit hours, 48 semester units
- High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
- Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing, as appropriate, reading/language arts, writing and mathematics or reading readiness, writing readiness and mathematics readiness
- Ability to obtain and hold a valid First Aid/CPR card
- Pass Safe Schools training modules as assigned
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance
- Ability to understand and apply District and school policies and procedures
- Ability to maintain appropriate appearance and attire
- Ability to maintain attendance standards as outlined in OSEA bargaining agreement
- Ability to greet stakeholders
- Ability to provide information pertaining to area and/or District/School policies, procedures and other pertinent information
- Ability to operate and maintain equipment
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during the course of work and from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to utilize appropriate grammar and spelling when corresponding
- Ability to make mathematical calculations accurately
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to practice cultural competency and demonstrate respect for diversity
- Ability to regularly lift and/or move 25 pounds
- Ability to occasionally maneuver up to 50 pounds

- Related experience in vocational educational setting
- Experience in woodworking, cabinet making and/or construction
