Job Summary
Assist in food portion preparation and cook across five areas including main dishes, salads, vegetables, bread, and desserts, specializing in one. Operate kitchen equipment such as dish machines, convection ovens, and mixers while adhering to strict safety protocols. Execute a "clean as you go" program by accepting rotated clean-up assignments and maintaining a neat appearance with proper grooming and uniform. Adjust recipes for quantity, serve on the line, and act as cashier during serving times as required. Notify management promptly if unable to report for work to arrange a substitute. This role involves daily tasks within the Child Nutrition program, requiring adherence to district policies and state/federal laws.
Required Qualifications
- Interest and knowledge of food
- Ability to follow preparation and handling policies
- Ability to learn and operate kitchen equipment (dish machine, convection oven, mixers) with emphasis on safety
- Ability to follow a 'clean as you go' program
- Ability to accept rotated clean-up assignments
- Ability to take pride in appearance of kitchen and personal work area
- Ability to be clean and neatly groomed
- Ability to wear proper well-fitting and clean uniform
- Ability to wear leather type shoes with non-skid soles
- Ability to arrange hair neatly in a hair net
- Ability to work without jewelry except wedding rings
- Ability to notify cafeteria manager in a timely manner if unable to report for work
- Ability to act as cashier during serving time
- Ability to adjust recipes for quantity
- Ability to read and understand recipes and work schedules
- Ability to abide by all district policies and state and federal laws
- Ability to perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor
- Ability to frequently bend, reach above shoulder level, push, pull, and carry
- Ability to lift up to 35# without assistance
- Ability to occasionally climb to a height of 2' and carry and/or lift more than 35# with help
- Ability to wipe clean surfaces such as tables, counters, walls and ceilings
- Ability to serve on serving line from either end or center position
- Hand dexterity in both hands
- Ability to perform sidetoside movement
- Ability to prepare foods in steam jacketed kettle or tilt skillet
- Ability to stir in a circular motion with both hands
- Ability to place food items on pans, transfer pans in and out of ovens and/or convection steamers and into holding cabinets or onto line
- Ability to operate dish machine - spraying off trays, feeding them through machine, storing clean items
- Ability to assist in storing of foods, paper goods, cleaning compounds, kitchen utensils on shelves, racks and/or pallets in storeroom refrigerator/free kitchen area
- Ability to sweep and/or mop floors
- Ability to work around dangerous equipment related to Child Nutrition Industry
- Ability to work in marked changes in temperature and humidity
- Ability to work in dust, fumes and gases
