Job Summary
Assistant Director of Exceptional Children assists the Director of Special Education by providing administrative and technical staff support in implementing policies and procedures for special education services. Serves as liaison to district personnel to coordinate programs and services for students with special needs; chairs/attends ARCs; consults on procedures, record keeping, and IEP implementation to ensure compliance with state and federal guidelines; assists with data collection for required reports; coordinates transportation services; monitors and audits forms and datasets (referrals, placements, IEPs, child counts); supervises and evaluates staff; participates in workshops and staff development; supports Medicaid billing and other related duties; requires knowledge of due process, ARC procedures, Least Restrictive Environments, and IDEA; strong initiative, time management, communication, and professional ethics. Education and certification as noted in minimum qualifications; salary and work year to be established by the board of education.
Required Qualifications
- Kentucky Certification in Special Education
- Kentucky Certification for the Director of Special Education preferred but not required
- Five years of successful teaching experience
- Must have knowledge of the IDEA
