Job Summary
Plan and teach a program of study in accordance with Texas Education Agency mandates and district curricula for a diverse population of students. Serve students by sheltering instruction across contents daily while creating an inviting, risk-free, and supportive learning environment. Assess student progress, diagnose learning needs, and implement instructional modifications per ARD and LPAC decisions. Confer regularly with parents, colleagues, and administrators to foster professional relationships. Maintain appropriate records, provide feedback, and implement an effective discipline management system aligned with district policies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from accredited university or college
- Valid Texas Teacher Certification including bilingual or ESL certification
- Texas Reading Academy Certificate (Grades K-3)
- Effective oral and written communication skills in English
- Ability to build and maintain productive relationships among colleagues
- Knowledge of district's bilingual and ESL programs
- Strong Bilingual and Biliterate proficiency required for Spanish subject (Literacy & Grammar, Science, Social Studies)
- Maintain an acceptable attendance rate – 94% annually (excluding approved leaves and emergencies)
- Maintain competence through professional development activities to meet campus, district (Multilingual Programs summer PD and DL PLCs) and federal requirements
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
- Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief
- Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed
- Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds); May require occasional heavy lifting and carrying (15-45 pounds)
- Possible district wide travel
- Work with frequent interruptions
- Maintain emotional control under stress
