Job Summary
Teach 5th Grade Science and Social Studies at Budewig, delivering a program of study aligned to TEA and district curricula. Plan and implement lessons, develop and use instructional strategies and materials, and assess student growth. Work with special education staff to modify curricula as needed, participate in ARD/LPAC/504/ RtI processes, diagnose learning needs, and collaborate with parents, colleagues, and administrators. Maintain a positive classroom environment, manage behavior, and document progress and assessments. Participate in professional development, comply with district/state policies, and support district mission. Responsibilities include coordinating with teachers and staff, planning meetings, and handling records, admissions, reviews, progress, and conferences, as well as supporting extracurricular activities as assigned. The position is a probationary contract with 187 days and is based in Houston, TX, with salary around $66,500.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level assigned
- Current ESL Certification: ESL Certification required within (2) years of employment beginning with teachers hired in the 2010-2011 school year
- Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
- Gifted Teachers must have 30 hours of gifted approved hours required
- Experience: Completion of student teaching or approved internship
- Knowledge of subject matter in assigned position
- Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
