Job Summary
First-grade classroom instruction aligned with TEA and district curricula, designing and delivering age-appropriate lessons, assessing student progress, collaborating with parents and staff, planning ARD/LPAC/IEP accommodations, and maintaining a positive, organized learning environment to support diverse learners. Responsibilities include professional development participation, conferencing with families, documenting student progress, and adhering to district policies and safety procedures. The role requires a Texas teaching certificate with endorsements for the assigned grade level, ESL certification within two years, and 30 hours gifted-education training for Gifted Teachers. The position is based in Houston, TX, with a 187-day contract and a minimum salary of $66,500 (base).
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level assigned
- Current ESL Certification: ESL Certification required within (2) years of employment beginning with teachers hired in the 2010-2011 school year
- Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
- Gifted Teachers must have 30 hours of gifted approved hours required
- Experience: Completion of student teaching or approved internship
- Major Responsibilities and Duties: Plan and teach a program of study in accordance with the Texas Education Agency (TEA), district mandates and curricula
- Plan and implement lesson plans that fulfill TEA and district curriculum requirements
- Work with special education teachers and interventionists for IEP modifications
- Assess student progress and provide feedback per guidelines
- Maintain professional relationships with parents, students, colleagues, and administrators
- Follow district safety protocols and maintain appropriate documentation
- Participate in professional development
- Teach diverse population including students in state/federal programs and general education
