Job Summary
First Cook is responsible for food safety and quality and for supervising other kitchen staff as needed. Responsibilities include communicating with the Head Cook/Manager on camp numbers and ordering, maintaining professional appearance and conduct, mastering all aspects of cooking for all meal types, accommodating various diets, baking breads and desserts, safely using and maintaining kitchen equipment, demonstrating proper knife skills, ensuring food quality and safety standards, supervising and mentoring staff, completing cleaning tasks, adhering to safety procedures, and ensuring compliance with all policies. Qualifications include FoodSafe Level 1, optional post-secondary culinary education or Red Seal assets, and First Aid. The role requires ability to live in a remote camp environment for extended periods, lift up to 25 lbs, and pass a drug and alcohol test. Location noted: Edmonton, AB, Canada.
Required Qualifications
- FoodSafe Level 1 (required)
- First Aid Standard Level required
- Post-secondary education in culinary arts, an asset
- WHMIS preferred
- Red Seal or Red Seal apprentice, an asset
- Minimum of 3 years of experience cooking in high volumes preferred
