Job Summary
The 1st Class Ship Fitter is responsible for fabricating, assembling, and installing structural parts of ships and marine vessels according to blueprints, specifications, and shipyard standards. Key responsibilities include reading blueprints, cutting and aligning structural parts, assembling hulls and frames, ensuring quality in fabrication, and collaborating with other trades. A high school diploma or GED and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in a shipyard are preferred for this role.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3+ years of ship fitting or related fabrication experience in a shipyard or heavy industrial setting.
- Ability to read and understand shipyard drawings and blueprints.
- Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, cutting torches, and measuring instruments.
- Familiarity with shipyard safety regulations and procedures.
- Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in various environmental conditions.
