Job Summary
Duties include complying with OSHA standards and shipyard safety practices; arriving at work site on time; completing shifts and overtime as assigned; maintaining a clean and safe work area; performing ship checks; completing assignments and providing status updates; complying with non-discrimination policy; following written/oral/diagrammatic instructions; performing shipyard tasks including setup on lathes/mills, valve repairs, material takeoffs, and writing condition reports per NAVSEA standards; implementing Lock-out/Tag-out procedures; and working in variable shipyard environments with PPE. Work tasks include preparing the work area, writing CFRs and takeoffs, operating lathes/mills, performing operational shop tests, producing coherent condition reports per NAVSEA standards, and ensuring quality and safety throughout. Physical demands and environment described in detail including PPE requirements, hazardous conditions, and confinement/vertical-space considerations.
Required Qualifications
- Must be able to comprehend instructions, drawings, and general correspondence
- Must have general understanding of ship repair terminology and ship compartment location nomenclature
- Must be physically and medically capable of wearing PPE as prescribed under OSHA standards (PPE listed)
- Must be able to write comprehensive Condition Found Reports (CFR) describing material condition and repair recommendations
- Must be able to work from Process Control Procedures (PCP)
- Must be able to use precision measurement tools
- Must be able to use conventional lathes, mills, VTLs, HBMs, and grinders
- Must be able to use programmable machines
- Must be able to interpret drawings, sketches, tech manuals, and user manuals for repairs or part manufacture
- Must understand NAVSEA standard items
- Must be able to accomplish onboard valve repairs
- Must understand Lock-out / Tag-out procedures
- Must be able to setup and machine onboard
- Must be able to use optics and Theodolite equipment for in-place line boring
- Must be able to line bore holding tight tolerances
- Must provide direction to Improvers and Helpers
- Must understand proper and safe use of hand and power tools
- Must have highly developed Math skills and ability to operate in US customary and metric systems
