Job Summary

Develop and execute strategic communications, media relations, and community engagement plans aligned with organizational priorities. Direct the production of high-quality content, including news releases, speeches, and digital materials, while managing day-to-day requests for events and advocacy initiatives. Lead the team in delivering stakeholder outreach, training staff on brand standards, and coordinating executive participation in government consultations and public forums. Monitor policy developments and build relationships with diverse communities, funders, and media influencers to enhance organizational visibility. Manage departmental work plans, budgets, and vendor relationships while reporting directly to the CEO.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Public Affairs, Community Development, or related discipline
  • Minimum 8 years of progressively responsible experience in strategic communications, public affairs, community engagement, media relations, stakeholder relations, or related fields
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years of leadership experience managing staff, consultants, vendors, and complex projects
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing integrated communications and engagement strategies, including direct production of materials, event delivery, and stakeholder initiatives
  • Experience working with government, community organizations, media, funders, and senior leadership teams
  • Strong strategic planning, communications, stakeholder engagement, and practical implementation skills
  • Exceptional hands-on writing, editing, speechwriting, content development, and presentation skills
  • Sound understanding of media relations, public affairs, advocacy, issues management, and crisis communications
  • Excellent interpersonal, consultation, facilitation, and relationship-building skills with staff, volunteers, government, partners, and community leaders
  • Strong project management, organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and follow-through skills
  • Ability to balance strategic priorities with hands-on deliverables in a fast-paced environment with shifting deadlines
  • Knowledge of BC's social services and non-profit landscape, including community development and service delivery models
  • Onsite work required
  • Business travel required
  • Evening and weekend work may be required

Desired Qualifications

  • Professional designation in communications, public relations, public affairs, or leadership
  • Experience in the non-profit, social services, healthcare, housing settlement, or public sector environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, SharePoint, website content management systems, email marketing platforms, Envoke, and social media analytics
  • Additional language proficiency
