Job Summary
Data Center Technician L1 at NTT Global Data Centers is responsible for the operational integrity and regulatory compliance of data center mechanical, electrical, and fire life safety systems. The role maintains processes to maximize customer uptime, ensures timely repair of problems, manages contractor work quality, and supports internal customer needs. Responsibilities include mechanical duties (chilled water systems, HVAC, CRAC/CRAH, humidification), electrical duties (distribution from utility/generator through UPS), and fire life safety (sprinkler systems and detectors). The position emphasizes cost efficiency, proactive maintenance, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to optimize facility performance. Required knowledge spans NEC/NFPA codes, BMS/PLC controls, VFDs/pumps, generators, and safety practices; certification and hands-on experience with critical facility systems are expected, along with willingness to work on-site with possible after-hours coverage.
Required Qualifications
- Relevant high school diploma or equivalent
- Relevant advanced qualification or equivalent work-related experience
- Certification such as CPR/First Aid and NFPA70E (can be gained during course of employment)
- OSHA forklift certification or ability to obtain one after hire
- Experience in a similar data center facilities role with mechanical/electrical responsibilities
- Experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting large commercial/industrial systems (mechanical, electrical, fire life safety)
- Knowledge of NEC and NFPA codes relevant to data center operations
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical orders
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with contractors and teams
- Ability to work a shift that may include nights, holidays, and weekends
