Job Summary
Maintenance Technician position within Parks & Recreation, Community on a full-time basis. Responsibilities include performing custodial, caretaking, and routine maintenance across facilities such as the arena, community hall, splash pad, and other Parks & Recreation spaces. Duties cover cleaning, basic repairs, preventative maintenance, arena ice-related tasks, safety inspections, weather-related upkeep, grounds work, emergency response, and operating or supporting ice resurfacing and refrigeration checks. Requires ability to work varied shifts, compliance with safety and environmental standards, and engagement with community programs. Experience in arena operations, refrigeration systems, and related ORFA certifications are assets. Willingness to learn and pursue ongoing certifications; ability to coordinate with staff and public, and to follow strict procedural guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent, OR Post-secondary certificate or coursework in building maintenance, custodial services, or a skilled trade considered an asset
- Physical ability to perform maintenance duties (lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing, operating equipment, working in varied weather)
- Must possess or be willing to obtain within 6–12 months: Basic Arena Refrigeration (ORFA); Safe Ice Resurfacer Operator (ORFA); Recreation Facility Cleaning, Disinfection, and Sanitizing Principles (ORFA)
- Must be willing to become a member of Ontario Recreation Facilities Association (ORFA)
- Ability to work mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
- Must demonstrate basic knowledge of building systems (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, custodial equipment, etc.)
- Willingness to undergo vulnerable sector check
