Job Summary

Assist the teacher with planning, preparation, and delivery of a quality instructional program based on state standards and district curriculum for students with diverse learning needs. Supervise students at recess, in the cafeteria, and while riding the bus, and perform crossing guard duties before and after school. Administer student tests, collect diagnostic data, update records, and monitor behavior to support individual educational growth goals. Provide physical assistance for students with special needs, including feeding, toileting, and proper positioning, while tracking and dispensing authorized medications. Administer first aid and personal care for medically fragile children. Participate in meetings and training to share observations and implement school initiatives. Work 6.25 hours per day, 180 days per year, from 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., starting September 1, 2026, under the direction of the teacher at Discovery Elementary School.

Required Qualifications

  • Basic WA State Para qualifications
  • experience working with children
  • Be at least eighteen years of age
  • hold a high school diploma or its equivalent
  • Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university
  • Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university
  • Completed an apprenticeship as a paraeducator, in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council
  • Received a passing score on one of the following PESB approved assessments: ETS ParaPro Assessment, Pearson's Paraprofessional Assessment, The Master Teacher Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program
  • Demonstrated knowledge of math, spelling, reading, grammar, and punctuation
  • Desire and aptitude to work with students
  • Ability to positively and professionally interact with students, supervisors, and staff
  • Ability to work both independently and cooperatively in a team situation
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage student behavior
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail and meet deadlines in an atmosphere of frequent interruptions
  • Ability to operate or willingness to learn to operate standard classroom equipment
  • Ability to provide for the physical, health and safety needs of students
  • Demonstrated ability to provide physical assistance for and properly lift students in and out of chairs in accordance with safe lifting requirements and the use of adaptive equipment as required
  • Knowledge of computer applications used to assist with student learning
  • Ability to strengthen job-related competencies
  • Ability to positively and professionally interact with students, supervisors, and staff
  • Ability to work both independently and cooperatively in a team situation
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage student behavior
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail and meet deadlines in an atmosphere of frequent interruptions
