Job Summary

Assist the teacher with planning, preparation, and delivery of a quality instructional program based on state standards and district curriculum for students with diverse learning needs. Supervise students at recess, in the cafeteria, library, and during bus rides, while performing crossing guard duties before and after school. Administer multiple student tests, collect diagnostic data, update records, and assess progress under the teacher's direction. Provide physical support, personal care, and medical assistance for ill or medically fragile children, including feeding, toileting, and proper lifting. Track and dispense authorized medications, monitor student behavior, and assist with implementation of special education services such as IEP goals. Provide clerical assistance including data entry, correspondence, and preparation of classroom materials. Participate in meetings and training to share information and implement school initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Basic WA State Para qualifications
  • experience working with children
  • Be at least eighteen years of age
  • hold a high school diploma or its equivalent
  • Hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university
  • Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university
  • Completed an apprenticeship as a paraeducator, in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council
  • Received a passing score on one of the following PESB approved assessments: ETS ParaPro Assessment, Pearson's Paraprofessional Assessment, The Master Teacher Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program
  • Demonstrated knowledge of math, spelling, reading, grammar, and punctuation
  • Desire and aptitude to work with students
  • Ability to positively and professionally interact with students, supervisors, and staff
  • Ability to work both independently and cooperatively in a team situation
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage student behavior
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail and meet deadlines in an atmosphere of frequent interruptions
  • Ability to operate or willingness to learn to operate standard classroom equipment
  • Ability to provide for the physical, health and safety needs of students
  • Demonstrated ability to provide physical assistance for and properly lift students in and out of chairs in accordance with safe lifting requirements and the use of adaptive equipment as required
  • Knowledge of computer applications used to assist with student learning
  • Ability to strengthen job-related competencies
  • Ability to positively and professionally interact with students, supervisors, and staff
  • Ability to work both independently and cooperatively in a team situation
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage student behavior
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail and meet deadlines in an atmosphere of frequent interruptions
