Job Summary
Special Education teacher responsible for a caseload across Resource Room and academic support, delivering instruction to students with developmental delays and multiple disabilities in accordance with IEPs. Prepare and monitor Individualized Education Plans, articulate learning challenges, identify remediation, evaluate progress toward goals, coordinate with related services providers, develop behavioral intervention plans, monitor behavior, and facilitate inclusive placement in the general education environment. Collaborates with school staff, nurses, and administrators; maintains communication with families and participates in school-wide activities. Knowledgeable about NYS/Common Core standards and mandates, differentiates instruction, analyzes student data, and adapts curriculum to individual needs.
Required Qualifications
- Valid NYS Certification in Special Education (K-12)
- Experience in Special Education (preferred at least 3 years)
- Knowledge of disabilities including Intellectual Disabilities, Multiple Disabilities, Autism
- Experience implementing feeding plans, addressing toileting needs, assisting with lifting/positioning
- Knowledge of Federal and State Mandates pertaining to students with disabilities
- Experience with Functional Behavioral Assessment and Behavioral Intervention Plans
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to collaborate as part of a team and coordinate service providers
- Case management and resource management skills
- Experience with differentiated instruction and data-driven instructional approaches
- Ability to interpret and analyze student data to meet NYS standards and individual needs
- Familiarity with Common Core and NYS Standards in ELA, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies
- Collaborate with staff to implement language intervention and augmentative communication supports
