Job Summary
Paraprofessionals are critical members of the teaching, learning and support staff from Pre-K to Grade 12 and Postgraduate students. Working under the guidance of special education teachers and classroom staff, paraprofessionals support students with disabilities through general education and modified learning experiences, implement IEP-based strategies, use assistive technology and digital tools (e.g., Google Classroom), assist with behavior support and data collection, and perform non-instructional duties such as supervision, toileting assistance, and facilitating independence within a collaborative school environment. Reports to building administration; school year (184 days); compensation negotiated with the Pentucket Association of Teachers. Requires meeting professional and district policies and participating in professional development as needed.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Willingness to accept direction and cooperate with all staff
- Prior experience with working with children in a school or similar setting preferred
- Ability to use good judgment and exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with others; ability to respect confidential matters; sensitivity to and respect of the problems of children; traits of resourcefulness, thoroughness, initiative, patience, courtesy, dependability, and enthusiasm
- Computer Literate
- Ability to learn and use assistive technology
- Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check (C.O.R.I.) and fingerprint check
- Paraprofessional responsibilities including ABA strategies and CPI training (training provided)
- Assist in toileting certain students with disabilities (if required)
- Lift and carry certain students with disabilities per IEP (if required)
- Data collection as instructed
- Observe and make notes of performance and behaviors
