Job Summary

The Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) - Urban leads and contributes to a high-quality cultural program for the Family Gatherings by delivering play-based, child-centered learning experiences to support holistic development and foster belonging for children and families. Ensures implementation of the How Does Learning Happen framework and ELECT guidelines, complies with the Child Care and Early Years Act, and adheres to Six Nations Employment policies and safety guidelines. Requires ECE diploma and CECE registration or equivalent, strong organizational and interpersonal skills, ability to lead as a team player, willingness to travel to satellite sites, valid G license, ability to pass medical and criminal checks, and First Aid/CPR certification. The role is a contract position with 37.5 hours/week during maternity leave, based in Brantford, Ontario, Canada, with preference for Haudenosaunee Six Nations members.

Required Qualifications

  • Early Childhood Educator Diploma and registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators or equivalent from a recognized community college
  • An equivalent college diploma from a recognized community college with 2 years’ work experience with children aged 0 to 10 and families
  • Thoroughly familiar with relevant legislation, regulations, and guidelines, i.e., requirements as set out by the Child Care and Early Years Act as well as “How Does Learning Happen” excerpts from ELECT document
  • Good organizational skills and an ability to lead as strong team player, good interpersonal skills
  • Knowledgeable about the Haudenosaunee Six Nations social character and culture, language, and traditions
  • Familiar with traditional approaches to assist children and families
  • Work experience with special needs children an asset
  • Availability and flexibility for working various shifts during weekdays, nights or possibly a shift on the weekend
  • Possesses excellent communication skills; verbal and written
  • Will have access to a reliable insured vehicle and must have a valid class “G” Ontario driver’s licence or willing to obtain, as required
  • Must be willing to travel to other satellite sites, and may be requested to move sites in both Family Gatherings and/or Child Care Centres
  • Must pass a medical examination and immunizations are up to date
  • Must pass a criminal records/vulnerable records check
  • Must have a valid certificate in First Aid/CPR or willing to obtain one
  • A good understanding of the theory and practice of family support programs in the Six Nations community and surrounding areas
  • Preference will be given to Haudenosaunee, Six Nations band members
  • Other Preferred Qualifications
  • Thoroughly familiar with relevant legislation, regulations, and guidelines, i.e., requirements as set out by the Child Care and Early Years Act.
  • Ability to teach primary words/phrases from either Mohawk/Cayuga Language
  • Ability to be patient, and can relate to children and adults with equal respect and dignity, regardless of life experiences, culture and values
  • Work experience with special needs children an asset
  • Excellent computer skills and demonstrated proficiency in current business software.
  • Excellent written and effectual oral communications skills working with adults and children.
  • Good organizational skills and an ability to work independently and as a strong team [truncated]
