Job Summary
Secure the assigned facility as instructed while providing armed escorts, stopping and questioning individuals, and responding to emergencies with unplanned strenuous physical activity. Conduct patrols covering the assigned area, utilizing site-issued handguns with both hands, handcuffs, and OC spray while adhering to all safety protocols and PPE requirements. Perform duties under stress in adverse weather conditions, including climbing stairs during emergencies and working alone. Maintain mental alertness, emotional stability, and the physical capacity to stand, bend, squat, push, pull, and lift 25 pounds throughout the shift. Pass extensive background checks, pre-employment testing, and a physical examination to meet South Carolina armed private security officer standards.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to pass extensive background check, including criminal history check, employment and education verification, and meet requirements for access to sensitive information
- Pass all site security requirements including advanced handgun training, use of force and use of intermediate weapons training
- Pass the following post-offer/pre-employment testing in accordance with assigned site requirements/regulations
- Physical examination administered by a licensed physician
- Work extended hours
- Work alone while armed
- Work and perform under stress
- Work in adverse weather
- Provide armed escorts
- Stop, question and detain individuals
- Respond to emergencies with unplanned strenuous physical activity
- Climb stairs in an emergency
- Sit or stand alone for at least two hours
- Use site issued handgun with dominant and non-dominant hand
- Use handcuffs
- Use OC spray
- Ability to function in emergencies and unusual environments
- Must be willing to wear all required PPE
- Must adhere to all safety protocols
- Mental alertness and emotional stability
- Acuity of senses; ability of expression to allow rapid, accurate communication by spoken, written, audible, visible, or tactile signals
- Physique, stamina, motor power, range of motion, and dexterity to allow safe execution of duties
- Distant visual acuity in both eyes shall be correctable to 20/25
- Distant visual acuity in each eye shall be correctable to 20/30
- Near visual acuity in both eyes shall be correctable to 20/30
- Near visual acuity in each eye shall be correctable to 20/35
- The use of corrective eyeglasses or contact lenses shall not interfere with an individual's ability to effectively perform assigned security duties during normal or emergency operations
- Peripheral visual fields 120° or greater
- Color vision adequate to distinguish among red, green, and orange-yellow signal lamps and any other coding required for safe operation
- No hearing loss in the better ear greater than 30 decibels average for speech frequencies 500, 1000, 2000 Hz in better ear
- Hearing aids are acceptable provided suitable testing procedures demonstrate auditory acuity equivalent to the above stated requirement of the facility
- No use of medications that while the individual is working, that would incapacitate, alter mental status, judgment or decrease physical or mental response times
- Individuals with medical conditions which may impact the ability to perform the essential functions of the job shall provide medical evidence that the condition is controlled with proper medication and/or treatment and/or reasonable accommodations
- Security personnel are required to meet site fitness for duty program standards, including pre-employment testing, post-accident/incident testing, reasonable suspicion or aberrant behavior testing (includes breathalyzer and drug screening)
- Must be able to stand, bend, squat, push, pull and lift 25 pounds during the entire shift
- Must be able to walk for the assigned area of patrol
- Must be able to work in hot, cold or inclement weather
Desired Qualifications
- Prior Experience Required in Law Enforcement or Armed Security Services or the Military is preferred
